Andromeda Rising - Book Cover

Angela McCurdy writes – HOOKED! REFRESHING! RELEVANT!

“Early on while reading Andromeda Rising, I was hooked. Being I’m a sci-fi & fantasy super fan – I was immediately drawn to this heroine. Jocelyn proved to be a strong willed and moral character, and given that she has had a less than perfect childhood, she was able rise above and overcome what was handed to her; all of which I feel young woman around the country will relate to.

With every page turn my curiosity about this champion was growing, but also I was intrigued by the character development of all the characters. I found myself making scenarios and plots of my own that the trilogy may follow. Readers may be surprised by the missing love interest for Joss (I see a dark stranger in her future LOL), but it was also very refreshing. Once again proving the storyline relevant in today’s society where woman have become independent, relying on themselves and their own instincts.”

“This first installment has left me eagerly anticipating the next installment of James Ramsey’s Celestial Series.”

Beckstar Reviews called it –  “a fresh, new take on a paranormal world with a little sci-fi/fantasy twist.”  adding  “Kuddos go to you Ms. Ramsey for creating a story such as this.  I loved it and am dying to read the next book in the series.”

Lana B says – “I bought it for my kindle and cannot put it down.”

Romance Bookworm Reviews had this to say – “I have really taken an interest in Urban Fantasy lately and this is just the type of book I have been craving!”  and  “I am excited to discover this amazingly talented author and I can’t wait to see where she takes me next!”

Brianna From Book Nerds Anonymous says – “I really liked this story. The magic and atmosphere of the supernatural world were my favorite parts of it, next to Jocelyn and all the side characters. I loved watching her discover all the things she didn’t know about, and am definitely going to be back for book two,”   and   “I gave Andromeda Rising 4 out of 5 Book Nerds

Michelle’s Paranormal Vault called it – a really fun witchy read…I loved our main character and her familiar…This book was written really well, and sure did a great job pulling you into the story. I don’t want to give too much away, but will say we have just about any supernatural creature that you can think of in this book.”  and  “Anyone who likes books with magic and other supernatural’s, in the modern day time, will love this book. I give it 5 out of 5 stars, and highly recommend it.”

April from Between the Pages wrote – “Wow….I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I started reading his book. I knew from the description that it was not my normal YA Dystopian book, which seems to be the genre I’m reading a lot, but more along the lines of a contemporary novel, and can I just say it was fantastic.” And “The book is full of twists and turns that you don’t see coming, but still has the underlying story of friendship between Jocelyn and Mateo.  It is beautifully written and definitely makes you want more. I think James Ramsey did an amazing job on her debut novel and I can’t wait to see what else she brings us in the second book of this series.”

Beth Allen Reviews – “James Ramsey snagged my complete devotion to her story in the first few pages of Andromeda Rising. I found the story lots of fun, and I loved the feisty dialogue between Mateo and Jocelyn–Mateo wants to protect her, and Jocelyn’s not used to being protected. And Jocelyn is not used to being really close, to anyone, until Mateo comes into her life. It’s a fun story, with wonderful creatures, humor, and lots of magic. It’s also about love, and creating a family that’s made up of people we care about. 4.75 stars for Andromeda Rising, with the hope that the next book comes soon.”

Kira Lyn Blue – “Andromeda Rising is a very entertaining debut novel and a refreshing change of pace from typical Urban Fantasy fare. Ramsey’s cosmology…incorporates all manner of supernatural and mythological beings. She incorporates just the right level of detail and world-building to leave you in a state of wonderment and wanting to learn more. Ramsey’s debut novel is a fun read. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.”

Ginny of Pure Textuality says –  “there’s a lot going on [in this book] and when I read the first novel in the series and there’s this much crammed in, I worry.  It could have gone so tragically wrong.  Thankfully, James Ramsey is a stellar author, so it ended up being oh so right. The world was stunning and included all the super natural critters that you love. And some that don’t get nearly enough stage time in this day and age.  Brownies for example. Which was all just the back drop for a good mystery complete with religious zealots.  Oh, and the setup for what I suspect will be everything that the Meredith Gentry books should have been…Good show, Ms. Ramsey, good show.  4 stars.”

Jamie Mitchell writes – “Let’s start with the characters. They’re all well developed in perfect timing with well designed character flaws and strengths. The details were rich and vivid, providing me with the perfect paintbrush to give imagery to my imagination. The plot was easy to follow and made it a quick read for me despite that it’s not a short book. James Ramsey has definitely laid the solid and strong foundations with all the amazing effort she’s put into this first one and while she’s answered several questions buzzing in my head she’s made sure that dozens more appear that will no doubt be answered on down the line, effectively hooking me. She’s started something with this first book that I look forward to keeping up with with each subsequent release, pulling me farther and farther into Joss’ universe with the culmination of different aspects that will gather like a snowball rolling down a mountain side.5 Stars

    HOOKED! REFRESHING! RELEVANT!

“I found out there were people out there that wanted to kill me for the things I was able to do, and they would kill the people around me to do it.”

“Teo, all my life I’ve followed my instincts. Every time I got the feeling I should run, I did. Every time I had a hunch about a case, it paid off. Not once have they let me down. I can trust Baron Blackthorn. We can trust him.”

** As a side bar, there are a couple adult scenarios and themes, so I would give this book a 14+ rating.

Andromeda Rising: Must Read Urban Fantasy New Release

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t give books more than a page to suck me in. Ramsey nailed it right away, from the summary to giving me action on page one. We get an instant sense of the type of character Joss is. Joss always does the right thing, even if it puts her in danger. One of her most redeeming qualities is also her biggest flaw. She’s been on her own for a while and lives under the radar, for reasons that become apparent as the story progresses, but even from the first chapter Ramsey has carefully added enough mystery behind these Inquisitors to force us to go along for the ride.

The care that the author takes with describing the setting and and vivid details of the world she’s created not only makes for an enjoyable reading experience but it allows your imagination to run wild and I found myself forgetting this wasn’t real. I had the strongest urge to fly down to Seattle and look for the Troll Market or Shido’s shop.

If you’re a fan of the paranormal and are looking for a new twist to the same old lore you’ve been reading about, this book is for you! It has everything from a swoon worthy shapeshifter to a hunky dark elf, grumpy faries to a randy satyr. Just like our heroine Joss learns of the supernatural word for the first time, everything you thought you knew about supernatural origins and mythology is turned on it’s head in this book, and that is a good thing! It’s so refreshing to read something different that doesn’t just buy into all the notions of current top selling paranormal books.

The intricate concepts and actual writing in this book makes it hard to believe this is James Ramesy’s debut novel. She is now on my list of authors to watch and I can’t wait for her next book!
